Class info, prices & timetable

Balance of Life mat classes are friendly, informal and restricted to a maximum of 15 clients to ensure quality of tuition and personal attention.

about STOTT PILATESIn class you will be encouraged to work to your own ability through the use of exercise modifications and a focus on the five key postural alignment principles. You will be supported and encouraged to work progressively towards your own personal goals, whether you are rehabilitating after injury, are an avid exerciser, or are just looking to achieve greater flexibility and core strength. You will leave each class feeling restored and energised and, with regular practice, the end result will be a balanced body that looks fit, feels revitalised, and moves with ease.

Basic Principles introductory workshop

If you have never done Pilates before, it is usually necessary to attend a ‘Basic Principles Introductory Workshop’ covering the basics of the STOTT PILATES® technique, the Five Basic Principles. This is to help you integrate into the class more easily and works very well.  This requirement differs depending on your experience, please contact us to discuss what would be best for you and for details of the next ‘Basic Principles Introductory Workshop’. If emailing us, please include your telephone number, email settings can mean my reply to your email can end up in your spam, so we can check receipt and it is often easier to have a chat.

It is best to decide the class you would like to join, and arrange to come to one of the Basic Principle workshops the week before you start, please book early to avoid disappointment, especially if you’d like to join a class after the summer holidays or in January. Introductory sessions are arranged on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis; the individual attention is the best way to get started and means you can join a class as soon as possible. Pilates starts quite slowly to ensure the Basic Principles are fully grasped before moving on. More details on joining are given below, after the class timetables. We do not take bookings for just the Basic Principles Workshop, this and at least one class need to be booked; we recommend at least 8 weeks, before you’ll get the feel of it and know whether Pilates is for you or not.  We love it!

If you are returning to Pilates it is possible, if space permits, to join a class mid-way through a term paying on a pro-rata basis for the remainder of the block.  It is often still worth doing the Basic Principles Workshop as it’s a good refresher before returning to regular practise.

Please wear clothing which is easy to move in and is relatively fitted. Pilates is practised either in bare feet or socks. Since Covid-19, for health and hygiene reasons, I would ask that you buy your own mat and soft head cushion and mat, 15-20mm matts are recommended for Pilates, to cushion the spine. A yoga mat is not thick enough for Pilates.  Since Covid class members have now also purchased their own foam rollers (smooth, 90cm long) and flex-bands (medium strength), but there is no need to worry about these initially. Your introductory email will provide more detail.

Payments, Cancellations & Refunds

Your mat class is not confirmed until we have received payment from you. You can pay by bank transfer or cheque.

Our preferred method of payment is bank transfer, I will provide the account details in your joining email.

We are sorry but no refunds or exchanges can be given, so please be sure of your purchase. Once a block has started you can make up any missed class at any of our other classes within the same block of 8 weeks; this also applies in the case of sickness or injury. Classes cannot be carried over to another block. We are happy to answer any queries you may have, please do get in touch prior to booking.

All eight-week blocks of Mat Classes, once booked, are non-changeable and not transferable to another person or dates (once the block has started).

If there are not enough people booked into a class to run it for the term, we reserve the right to cancel the class. A full refund will be given to you.

These terms are applicable to everyone in all circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.

Drop-in Mat Classes

To ‘drop-in’ to a class, you do need to let us know in advance that you want to come along and it will be necessary for you to have previously attended STOTT PILATES classes or to have completed our ‘Introductory Workshop’ on the basics of the STOTT PILATES® technique before joining.

Then just turn up to the class you would like to attend, introduce yourself to the Instructor. We cannot guarantee there will be a space for you in the class you would like to ‘drop-in’, but it is always worth a phone call, only very occasionally do we have too many people to fit in.

If you have not already done so you will need to complete our Health Record Form. Please inform the Instructor of any changes to your health or of any injuries so she can guide you safely in the class. It is your responsibility to do this.

One to One and Private Group Sessions Cancellation Policy

Please cancel your One to One or Private Group Sessions at least 24 hours before the booked session time. Cancellations 24 hours or less from the start time and no shows are charged for.  Cancellations 24 hours or more from the start time can be rescheduled at no charge. We are sorry, they cannot be refunded.
